Abstract

APIs enhance healthcare connectivity. This study revealed that API-led connections could enhance healthcare data exchange, efficiency, and collaboration. Incompatible hospitals result from fractured systems, disparate data formats, and divergent protocols. These obstacles hinder efficiency, decision-making, and patient care. APIs facilitate the secure exchange of real-time medical data among healthcare enterprises, addressing multiple challenges. Module-based API connectivity enables the transmission of healthcare data. API integration facilitates communication of patient data among doctors, insurers, laboratories, and others, hence enhancing decision-making. This study illustrates REST and HL7 FHIR APIs. The protocols enable healthcare organizations to create scalable APIs for future requirements without involving legacy systems.
