Metacognitive Strategies and Their Importance in the Teaching and Learning Process

Abstract
Based on the search for the best ways and strategies to present the educational material in a way that would raise the quality of the teaching and learning process and make the learner a participant in acquiring his knowledge in a conscious way and the teacher as a guide and advisor rather than a lecturer by following the appropriate strategy for different educational situations, the current study came with the aim of revealing the nature of metacognition in general and the terms related to it, as well as the importance of using metacognitive strategies in classrooms and their impact on the educational system as a whole represented in the didactic triangle (teacher, learner, curriculum) by addressing: - The emergence of the concept of metacognition. - Its components and types of metacognitive strategies. - How to employ metacognitive learning strategies in teaching and obstacles to their application. - In addition to the educational and teaching foundations that must be taken into account when using metacognitive strategies.
